Suz & MC tied the knot in November 2017, and what better way to celebrate their love than getting to know them a little better!
As a company that is always celebrating love, The Merrimon-Wynne House, as part of Heyens Holdings, is acknowledging and further committing to being welcoming and accepting to all forms of love. At each of our picturesque event spaces, we make room for all couples to bring their love to life.
Creating the perfect space for love is at the core of who we are. Let us share that with you!
MC: “The moment I met Suz. We met through mutual friends one night in college, and even though she was dating someone at the time I knew that I was going to marry her.”
Suz: “I never had a defining moment, but it didn't take long for me to fall in love with MC. We share a mutual love for Harry Potter, and I told MC I loved her for the first time after seeing the last Harry Potter movie at a theater in Chapel Hill. Even now 10 years later, as a nod to that moment, I wear a tiny golden snitch ring :)”
MC: “The dancing! On our wedding RSVP cards, we included a fill-in-the-blank for "I promise to dance if you play _______." The responses were so fun and we were able to compile a playlist that got everyone out on the dance floor!”
Suz: “Spending a full day surrounded by everyone we love! Getting ready with our wedding party was a highlight for me - the Merrimon Wynne provides a beautiful space to sprawl out, hang out, and enjoy the day with your friends and family before the ceremony.”
MC: “Loved. Especially coming off of our rehearsal dinner at Brewery Bhavana and welcome party at Whiskey Kitchen the night before. It felt so special to have our love be celebrated by so many people around us, and we just wanted to continue the party.”
Suz: “So many emotions - stressed but relaxed, excited but nervous. The nerves lifted immediately after our first look, where we were able to spend some time alone together before the ceremony.”
Suz: “Truth be told, I picked out both of our outfits! We both ended up in wedding dresses (and reception jumpsuits!) from BHLDN. I tried mine on at a trunk show at our local Anthropologie and had the classic feeling of never wanting to take it off - I knew it was the one! And it was not at all what I was expecting to love - an off-the-shoulder, form-fitting lace dress by Tadashi Shoji. Finding a dress for MC was easy; I knew she wanted something classic and simple and her dress by Jill Stuart was perfect. We both ended up in Jill Stuart jumpsuits for the reception; perfect for dancing!”
MC: “Walking down the "aisle" with both of our parents to an instrumental version of "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry. We chose to enter the ceremony from each side of the seated guests with no true center aisle. It was the perfect way to include both of our parents in the walking down the aisle tradition.”
Suz: “The way MC smiled the entire time during our ceremony. I'll never forget the way she looked at me, especially as we recited our vows. The last line of our vows says, "this is my sacred vow to you, my equal in all things." I loved that moment so much I have it tattooed on my right arm in MC's handwriting.”
MC: “While we did not do many things traditionally, we did a traditional champagne toast to kick off the reception. But to add our own spin on it, we did a huge champagne tower on the side porch of the Merrimon Wynne - and luckily our guests did not let that champagne go to waste!”
MC: “Make sure you sit down and enjoy your food! Really - it's easy to get caught up in the day and not take a few minutes to actually eat. We were lucky that our wedding planner, Amanda, with Amanda Blair by Design, set aside plates for us!
Suz: “Everything won't go as planned and that's okay! We knew that as long as we were married, our wedding was a success!”
MC: “Spending all of my time with my best friend.”
Suz: “I WAS GOING TO SAY THE SAME THING ^^^. Truly, we are so lucky to be best friends, partners, and equals in all things. We constantly lean on each other for support and advice. I couldn't imagine it any other way.”
MC: “Align your priorities for your wedding. When we first started wedding planning we each came up with our own top 3 priorities and then narrowed those down to a collective top 3 priorities for our wedding so we knew exactly where we wanted to invest vs. where we could scale back. Having agreed on that from the beginning really helped us avoid any tough conversations throughout the wedding planning process since we were on the same page.”
Suz: “Get. A. Wedding. Planner. Seriously, we could not have pulled off our wedding without Amanda. A huge piece of wedding preparation is coordinating with vendors, and with Amanda's guidance we were able to form great relationships with all of our vendors which made the process enjoyable rather than stressful.”
